As the lead designer, I was given the opportunity to steer a long overdue update to the Vizrt graphics package for the big screens during AFL matches.
The focus of the design brief was to maintain the flexibility of the scoreboard design across multiple home team brands, with an increase in legibility and creative design.
As my last project with Champion Data, I pulled out all the tricks in my Vizrt catalogue and made it one of the best I’d worked on, but wanted to leave my team with a setup that was easy to dissect and update for future changes.
I built the scenes with lots of custom scripting functions including a home-built version of transition logic, which worked better with Champion Data’s operation software GGi, and custom heading change animations.
Using the inbuilt image masking and stacking techniques also created some nice headshot reveals and scene state transitions.
The feedback from both clients and internal parties of Champion Data was extremely positive, and I was pretty chuffed with the results myself.
The gallery below contains stills from the design process, and some changes were made during the transfer to Viz Artist.
